Local Wins

I was reading this article on NPR over at Mashable, and their first point about local is spot on. Local Wins. National coverages can’t do local content. It is too hard. They don’t live there, they live somewhere else. Local is why I follow plenty of people and companies here in Boston. I follow people that go to user groups, concerts and other event, and companies that release tools so I can see what is new local to me. It just so happens Boston is a bright light on the national stage too.

Local is where the little guy can win. An active human being with interests can keep others in their local scene up to date much easier and faster than the nationals can. I would not be surprised to see nationals paying these new news producers (if they actually understood that they produced news) to rebrand their content under the nationals. However, it would offer little gain, as the hardest part is finding these individuals. But that just takes an active human being with interests.

Go be active
